The 2007 Microsoft Office Security Guide provides prescriptive Group Policy setting and security configuration recommendations to help strengthen the security of computers running the 2007 Microsoft Office release on computers that run Windows Vista or Windows XP in domain–based environments.

  • 2007 Microsoft Office Security Guide: This document describes the security features in the 2007 Office release and how they can help mitigate issues of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The guide also contains prescriptive guidance for configuring your environment through Group Policy.
  • 2007 Microsoft Office Threats and Countermeasures: This reference describes Group Policy settings that relate to security and privacy for the following programs in the 2007 Office release:
  • Microsoft Office Access 2007
  • Microsoft Office Excel 2007
  • Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007
  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007
  •  Microsoft Office Word 2007

The Threats and Countermeasures referenced Microsoft Office programs and also provides security analysis and mitigation strategy information.

  • Security Settings for 2007 Office Applications: This Office Excel workbook lists Group Policy settings that relate to security and privacy for the referenced programs. It provides default configuration information as well as recommendations for two different types of environments. The Enterprise Client recommendations are appropriate for most organizations that wish to balance security and functionality, and the Specialized Security – Limited Functionality recommendations are only appropriate for organizations that have very stringent security requirements and for which security is more important than functionality.
