Adobe Reader 8 Bloated As Always

by Jason on December 7th, 2006

Adobe Reader 8 Available

If you haven’t seen it yet, Adobe latest version of their pdf reader software is available in Version 8. It’s over 20MB in size, so don’t think you’re getting a nice trim and fit piece of software to use. Why oh why oh why couldn’t Microsoft have been allowed to keep PDF file options in the new office. Has that changed? I haven’t heard anything.

I don’t see anything different with this version either. Oh wait! It opens PDF files. Just like version 1! There is a little bit of good news though. You can actually request a different version of the Reader software on their download page. If you ask for the Windows 95 version it’s just a glimmer under 10MB. We’ve come a heckuva long way baby! Oh look! It still opens PDF files.

Update: It took over 20 minutes for the Adobe Reader to install, then they wanted me to go to another website and download and install more add-ons. You’ve got to be kidding me. Luckily, it only took a few seconds to download and install the FoxIt Reader at less than 2MB.

And the Vista version won’t install since it doesn’t have the correct permissions on a file in the TEMP directory. Adobe needs to learn how to make (or use) an installer properly. That, and send their programmers back to school.
