Alternative File Decompression Utility

by Jerome Locson on November 26th, 2007

zipeg.jpgI know many of you already use tools for decompressing files like Winzip or Winrar and both offer free trial but requires you to register after few days (although you can still use the tool).

No more worries because here comes a freeware that requires no registration. It’s FREE! This could be your alternative or could be your tool from now on after trying it out. It is called Zipeg which is basically a file decompression/compression utility that works for both Windows and Mac OS X. Here is a quick run-through of its interesting features:

  • Formats: ZIP, RAR, 7z, ARJ, LHA, TGZ, TAR and many many more.
  • Pictures and Photos - preview them instantly or open in external application.
  • Filenames in your national alphabet.
  • Zip thru photo archives, see thumbnails, select and extract what you need.

The file is relatively small, 2.4 MB for Macintosh and 1.3 MB for Windows.
