Office Tweaks

giving thurderbird 2.0 some personal touch

by Jerome Locson on August 16th, 2007

I enjoy working on Windows Environment - programming, documenting, and surfing the Internet. And checking my email is always a priority and aside from my Gmail and Yahoo email accounts, I use MS Outlook to check my other personal email accounts.

I once had an experience doing my programming tasks on a Fedora (a linux distro) environment when I was working in a mobile-content provider company. I was like in a new world, but basically it’s just the look and feel. The company preferred to use Fedora since Windows multiple-licensing for business is quite expensive. While Fedora is free and an open-source software, the company saved alot from this option and still does the work. And we started coding using notepad, doing CVS update, etc… really new things to practice during those times.

But of course, company emails are there. We used an email client called Mozilla Thunderbird, a free and open-source software as well. And we need setup our email signatures, font sizing, and font style. And it was nice to see the signatures along my outgoing email. Sadly, it was just few months of a full open-source experience in that company. And I enjoyed it. Thanks to them.

Now, back to my Windows mode. I downloaded Thunderbird for Windows and tried it out, and was just perfect. And I want to share this link I found to give your Thunderbird some personal retouch - http://legroom.net/howto/thunderbird. It has tips and tricks on how to make most out of your Thunderbird in “reclaiming your inbox” as their motto goes. They also have some links of extensions as well for your Thunderbird. To try our Thunderbird, download it here.
