Google Notebook

by Jason on May 17th, 2006

Okay, this isn’t really a full-blown online office suite app, but it’s got some functionality like that of Microsoft’s OneNote and your basic Notepad program and basic clip board functionality.
Google Notebook is now available:

Google Notebook makes web research of all kinds – from planning a vacation to researching a school paper to buying a car – easier and more efficient by enabling you to clip and gather information even while you’re browsing the web.

And since Google Notebook lives in your browser, you won’t be left with a scattered collection of notes, Word docs, and browser bookmarks to sort through; all your web findings will be gathering into one organized, easy accessible location that you can access from any computer.

Thanks to Aaron at Emerging Earth for sharing this. He doesn’t understand what the big deal is about the product. I can kind of agree with him, but I also think it could be a great tool for Bloggers to collect information for potential, future blog posts. In those regards, one of the great features I see is automatic source attribution when you save a clip from a webpage. Great idea!

Jason, thanks for the link. Sure it can provide a place to collect links but this benefit can be seen in all the service I linked to plus some, plus browser bookmarks. I mean, is there really anything particularly novel here?

I agree, it just does what others have already done. But for me, building a collection of simple little utilities all rolled into one username/password/accesspoint from a single provider is a great feature. It was the same way with del.icio.us with me. The functionality was there, and they were more popular, but because I was already using Yahoo for so much stuff, I still chose their MyWeb2.0 product over del.iciou.us. I’m still not sure why those two are separate still since Yahoo! owns them both now.
