IBM Lotus SmartSuite 9.8
Aside from IBM Lotus Symphony, IBM also have the Lotus SmartSuite which is it its 9.8 version release with the following feature highlights:
Windows XP Support: IBM® Lotus® SmartSuite® Release 9.8 supports the Windows XP platform. It provides Lotus SmartSuite’s enterprise customers with streamlined installation and seamless enterprise-wide integration between Lotus SmartSuite and the operating system. New technologies allow administrators to create user settings centrally and download those customization settings automatically to individuals or groups of individuals. Administration improvements will reduce help desk inquiries as well as total cost of ownership.
Desktop Applications Coexistence: Lotus SmartSuite Release 9.8 is data-savvy. Lotus SmartSuite users can share files with users of previous versions of Lotus SmartSuite and all versions of Microsoft Office, including Office XP. Lotus SmartSuite 9.8 has enhanced Microsoft Office compatibility including support for MS WordArt objects. Lotus SmartSuite can create or open files from WordPerfect and many other popular desktop applications.
InstallShield for Windows Installer: Lotus SmartSuite includes an enhanced install program using Microsoft Software Installer (MSI). The installation features in Lotus SmartSuite Release 9.8 enable quick and easy customizable installation. Customizable administrative-based installs make deployment easier than ever and, more importantly, simplify the end-user experience. Lotus SmartSuite users will have less downtime, and administrators will have fewer support calls. Users may also register SmartSuite quickly using their internet connection during installation.

I’d like IBM to keep supporting Lotus products (especially Approach for my own) and make what is necessary to make this project (older than MS Office concept but still easier to use) keep a chance to convince users. Everybody knows how MS got the monopole commercially but not technically. Making a Linux version with the lastest features would be a great thing. Why not a 10th version (for 2010 for an example) ?…
