Office 2008 Update, Delayed Open XML File Format Converter

by Jerome Locson on February 26th, 2008

The release of Office 2008 for Mac last January made many Mac users happy for the update during the Macworld Expo. As a routine to improve new software released from customer feedbacks and suggestions, the update was delayed further until March 11th, 2008. Along with this delay is the release of Open XML File Format Converter Update to Office 2004 for Mac. This just mean that Office 2004 for Mac users will have to wait again to finally able to read Microsoft’s Office 2007 file formats.

The final converter was previously scheduled for delivery 6-8 weeks after U.S. availability of Office 2008; instead, the final converter will be available to customers by late June 2008 as a download from Mactopia and also via Microsoft AutoUpdate.

What else can we expect when updates are release?

  • Availability of Office 2008 Volume Licensing – English, French, and Japanese versions became available on February 1st; all other supported languages will be available on March 1st.
  • Remote Desktop Connection for Mac version 2.0 – the final release is scheduled for spring. The public beta version is available for download here.
  • Messenger for Mac 7.0  – As mentioned previously, Messenger for Mac 7.0 is currently in beta with corporate customers; we expect to roll out the next version to everyone later this year.

To automatically receive the update, please download the AutoUpdate tool at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx and for further comments and suggestions, please click here.
