Outlook 2007 - Forgetting to be default mail client

by Jason on August 15th, 2006

I received an e-mail from a reader that’s having problems with their Outlook 2007 beta experience. It seems that sporadically her computer forgets that it should have Outlook 2007 as it’s default, instead moving the default back to MSN.

Has anyone else experienced this. It also seems to just have started doing this, not being a problem initially after the install.

I’m curious as to if it’s something more related to MSN taking back control instead of Outlook 2007 releasing control.

To my panel of reader experts, please let us know what you think so we can help this person out.

My Outlook 2007 won’t display the text of my new e-mail messages. It imported all of the old ones fine, and will still download attachments, but it will not render the text of incoming e-mails. Have you heard of this problem before? Any idea what to do?

You mentioned a “refresh” for Outlook 2007. Is that an update? If so, can you link me to it?

    Hi
I am having a similar problem with file ExSec 32 dll is incompatible with microsoft office outlook.
Also no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the message required, please run microsoft office outlook mail and set it as your default client.

This seems to happen after a recent automatic microsoft download/fix?
    Any ideas?

    Regards

    Same here,
I run outlook 2007 beta 2 on vista 5384 and I cannot set outlook to be the default client, It always tries to launch Windows mail when I try to use send to -> mail receipient in windows explorer.

    Keep me updated

I had the same problem of text not showing in mail message. Turns out it was my antivirus’ pluging not compatible with office 12. I disabled the plugin and everything is back to normal.

I was using AVG and the email scanner plug-in is not compatible. Initially I disabled the plug-in but left the box for “scan outgoing mail” checked. At this point the incoming looked good, but outgoing was blank. I found out that even with the plug-in disabled I had to uncheck BOTH boxes for scanning incoming and outgoing mail in the AVG program. Since I figured that out, all is well. I really like the Outlook Beta and have not had other problems.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS MENTIONED ABOVE. OUTLOOK 2007 INSTANT SEARCH AND DESKTOP SEARCH WILL FIND ALL OF MY OLD E-MAIL BUT NOT ONE OF MY CURRENT EMAILS IN MY INBOX OR OUTBOX. I TRIED UNINSTALLING THE INSTANT SEARCH AND IT STILL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY.

same problem here, outlook won’t be the default mail client. is really annoying to have the msg asking me. Also for me it just happen after 1 of the automatic update. Strange thing is that Firefox is doing the same thing for me, it won’t be default web bowser. I am guessing is a bug from 1 of the windows update.

SOLVED. Had the same problem and found the solution on another site. In Microsoft Office Tools, run the MS Office diagnostics program. Restart outlook and hopefully it work for you too.

your solution seems much more scientific than mine…i just kept resetting the default- day after day after day and i think the program got tired of fighting with me…i no longer have the email problem. :)
