Blogging with Word 2007: Part II

In my previous post about blogging from within Word 2007, I completely relied upon Word for the entire editing of the post.
Within that post though, I expressed a little bit of concern over the code that would be used by Word when posting into the Word press site.
After posting and reviewing the post, I can say […]

Blogging with Word 2007

After reading a recent post from Robert Scoble sharing his opinion of how Jon Udell talking about blogging within Word 2007 wasn’t very useful, I remembered that I hadn’t tried the blogging function from within Word since installing the final release of the Office software.
If you ever downloaded and installed Windows Live Writer, you’ll notice […]

The Real Story Behind HTML Support in Outlook 2007

You may remember an article I wrote awhile back that talked about the changes to HTML support in Outlook 2007. They stopped using the IE7 rendering engine in favor of using the Word HTML engine. Doesn’t make much sense does it?
Molly E. Holzschlag took it upon herself to investigate the issue further and get a […]

Outlook 2007 - Word HTML vs. IE7 HTML

Just how bad is it that Microsoft decided to drop Outlook’s use of IE7 as it’s HTML rendering engine and move to Word 2007 as the rendering engine?
ForeverGeek has a side-by-side comparison (between Outlook 2000 and Outlook 2007) of an e-mail viewed in both rendering engines. This is horrible Microsoft, why would you do this? […]

Outlook 2007 Uses Word Rendering for HTML

This was news to me, but it does explain some of the weirdness in the HTML display in some of the Outlook e-mail messages I receive.
At the risk of turning this newsletter into a biweekly Microsoft bash, Redmond has done it again. While the IE team was soothing the tortured souls of web developers everywhere […]

Grammar Edits - Calling all English Teachers

Okay, here’s a quick question to everyone out there. How many of you use the grammar checker provided by Microsoft in Word? Here’s a screen shot of a recent correction suggestion for an e-mail I was working on in Outlook 2007.
I think my high school English teacher (Hi! Mrs. Craig) might be proud of me […]

And in this corner - Microsoft Word 2007

I stated yesterday that I would be comparing Microsoft’s new Windows Live Writer with the blogging feature built into Word 2007.
Live Writer came through with flying colors in my opinion.
I’d love to really give you a side-by-side comparison with Word 2007, but it doesn’t work with WordPress. Do wha!? Doesn’t work with WordPress? What is […]

Merging Table Cells in Word

Working on a Word document and using a table to control different columns of text. Given that the ribbon toolbar is supposed to group commands in a contextual pattern. I would have expected a “Merge Cells” button to display when I had selected more than one congruent cell.
However, I had to figure out that the […]

Improved Word File Size

It seems I’m jumping on a file size soapbox lately, but the new Word files seem a lighter lighter.
I’ve not done any scientific tests to prove this, but it seems like the newer version of Word is really capable of reducing file sizes dramatically. I may have to do some side-by-side comparisons.

Click & Type (I never noticed)

Did you ever notice there was a feature in Word 2000 called Click and Type? Basically if you hovered your mouse around the center of the page you would see the center align graphic as your mouse pointer. You could then double-click and begin typing centered text on the page. Same goes with left or […]
